Glebe Markets

Glebe Markets are a such a fun way to spend a Saturday morning.

It's a bit less grown up than the other markets around Sydney: tons of hippies in tie-dye shirts and furry gilets, tatooed jugglers and street artists, and a bohemian crowd that is happy to take things slowly with a soy chai latte and a vegan burrito.

I went there to have a look at some of the designer clothes (which are only marginally cheaper than in the stores), and the general potpourri of vintage clothes, second hand books, quaint and kitschy accessories, teapots and handbags.

Regardless of the fact that most of the wares were not cheap, the stalls were cute and quirky and was inspiring to see what amazing things people can produce from old crates or upcycled leather scraps. I got carried away with the hippy spirit and bought a set of three gemstone bracelets for a tenner. Unfortunately I have lost the labels which described the specific powers associated with those gems, but I remember it covered pretty much everything from love to focus, energy and healing.

Like with most markets the real highlight was the food section. There was a nice selection of stalls selling fresh dumplings, vietnamese baguette, sushi and freshly squeezed sugarcane juice.

A fresh Guatemalan coffee, a spot on the grass and live music performed by the local buskers - it didn't really mattier whether I walked away with a bargain or not, because moments like this are priceless.
